He is CEO of OUTsurance Insurance and has been with OUTsurance since 2002, having held several senior leadership positions, including CEO of OUTsurance and OUTsurance Life, as well as CEO of Youi Insurance in Australia.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Matthee said he was honoured by the Board’s confidence in him and looked forward to working with the Board, Management and industry partners to build a sustainable and innovative industry that remains relevant, affordable and trusted.

Mohamed Motala has been appointed Deputy Chairperson. Motala is CEO of SCOR SE Africa Branch and has 30 years of experience in the insurance industry. He joined SCOR in 2008 and has held several leadership roles, having previously worked at Credit Guarantee Insurance Corporation of Africa, Swiss Re Africa and Absa Insurance Company.

SAIA congratulates Matthee and Motala on their appointments and looks forward to their leadership and contributions to the Association and the broader non-life insurance industry.

SAIA also extended its sincere appreciation to Thusang Mahlangu, the outgoing Chairperson and CEO of Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty South Africa, for his leadership and dedicated service to the Association. During his tenure, Mahlangu provided valuable guidance to the SAIA Board and supported the Association in advancing its mandate to represent and promote the interests of South Africa’s non-life insurance industry.

The leadership changes follow the Association’s AGM in August, at which six new Board members were appointed to fill vacancies arising from the conclusion of outgoing Board members’ terms. The new Board members are as follows:

• Antoinette Shand – Lombard Insurance Company Limited
• Linda Seroka – Export Credit Corporation of SA SOC Limited
• Zelda Mostert – Chubb Insurance SA Limited
• Abdul Vally – Coface SA Limited
• Andrew Coutts – Hollard Insurance Company Limited
• Soul Abraham – Old Mutual Insure

The new Board brings a broad range of experience and expertise to SAIA as it continues to advance its priorities and represent the interests of the non-life insurance industry.
