The South African Insurance Association (SAIA) launched its 2025 Consumer Education Report on 7 July 2026. The report highlights that SAIA successfully implemented four Consumer Education projects in 2025, reaching approximately 2.9 million consumers across all nine provinces, with a total budget of R7 million, resulting in a cost efficiency of R2.36 per beneficiary.
The significant reach was driven primarily by the Radio Programme, delivered across two radio platforms in isiZulu and Setswana. The programme targeted South African households, including the working class, pensioners, and small, micro, and medium enterprises (SMMEs).
Additional programmes included:
- Building Resilient Businesses Programme, which reached 770 start-up business beneficiaries; and
- MoneyTime “Adopt-a-School” Financial Literacy Programme, which reached 243 Grade 7 learners at Olifantsfontein Primary School.
In addition to these projects, SAIA implemented six awareness campaigns on key topical issues, including road safety, winter fires, and flood risk. These campaigns were delivered across multiple media platforms and reached approximately 802,000 consumers, at a total cost of R136,700.
The 2025 Consumer Education initiatives met all Financial Sector Code (FSC) targets and complied with the Consumer Education Standards set out in Guidance Note 500 (GN500). Notably:
- 48% of beneficiaries were from rural areas, exceeding the 25% target
- 100% of beneficiaries were Black African, surpassing the 75% target
- 90% of the budget was allocated to interactive programmes, exceeding the 60% target.
To ensure accountability and effectiveness, independent Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) specialists were appointed to assess programme outcomes against the GN500 standards and predefined Key Performance Indicators.
