Event Description

Established in 2018 by the National Treasury, the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) and the National Consumer Financial Education Committee (NCFEC), the annual campaign promotes financial literacy, consumer awareness and informed financial decision-making among South Africans.

As part of MSWSA 2026, the South African Insurance Association (SAIA), in collaboration with Mosidi Shomang Trading CC, will host a consumer-education webinar on 3 September titled “Balancing Affordability and Protection in Challenging Economic Times.”

The webinar forms part of SAIA’s “Know Your Insurance” Consumer Education Radio Programme and will focus on helping consumers make informed insurance decisions in an increasingly challenging economic environment.

With household budgets under pressure, consumers may have to make difficult choices about their insurance cover. The webinar will provide practical guidance on managing insurance costs while ensuring consumers remain appropriately protected.

The discussion will cover:

  • Practical ways to manage insurance costs;
  • The factors that influence insurance premiums;
  • The importance of regularly reviewing insurance cover;
  • Balancing affordability with adequate protection; and
  • Making informed insurance decisions.

The webinar will be hosted on Microsoft Teams as follows:

Through its participation in MSWSA 2026, SAIA continues to promote insurance literacy and empower consumers with the knowledge needed to understand their non-life insurance needs, make informed decisions and protect what matters most. This ongoing commitment was recently recognised by MSWSA, which acknowledged SAIA for its contribution over the past five years to collective efforts to advance financial literacy and consumer awareness in South Africa.
