Job Purpose
Responsible for all technical insurance issues as the SAIA Insurance Risks Technical Manager to SAIA Management and all SAIA strategic areas, as well as project leader for the various SAIA Property Technical Committee and Specialist Business Lines Forums, and acting as SAIA media insurance technical expert as and when required.
Responsible for own work output and performance success against the strategy. Identifies risks and develops processes to manage the risks effectively and as mandated through the relevant SAIA structures.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for all SAIA technical insurance issues, including those within Insurance Risks, Transformation and Governance SAIA Departments
- Identify challenges and new developments in the technical insurance area across all the non-life insurance lines or classes of business
- Provide leadership for the industry with regards to technical insurance issues and interpret market trends on an ongoing basis and to keep the SAIA designated structures and SAIA management informed of these developments
- Perform duties of Line Manager for SANPA/SANP, including checking of underwriting, budgeting process, Board reports and Board papers, and any other duties as it relates to SANPA/SANP
- Assist in getting the buy-in from SAIA members, and other stakeholders, with regards to potential Specialist Lines Forums and projects
- Implement approved SAIA projects
- Develop reports for all projects implemented for the respective SAIA structures
- Maintain contact with SAIA members to ensure timely activity and adherence to project deadlines
- Identify and manage key stakeholders within the non-life insurance and related industries aligned to the Insurance Risks Stakeholder Management Strategy
- Consult with relevant stakeholders in the non-life insurance industry as far as technical insurance matters are concerned
- Represent the SAIA at meetings of the Financial Sector Conduct Authority and Prudential Authority and other relevant Stakeholders, as directed by SAIA
- Arrange and coordinate meetings with relevant stakeholders
- Prepare SAIA Board Committee reports, Board reports and other relevant reports
- Represent SAIA in relevant industry forums
- Participate and represent SAIA in relevant committees and/or other structures of relevant other stakeholders, including government
- Build relationships with all relevant stakeholders, including the relevant government agencies and departments
- Deliver presentations as and when required within the appropriate forums as and when required
- Acting as SAIA technical media expert as and when required
- To support and work closely with the SAIA Communications Area and Communications Agency to enhance the image and reputation of the SAIA
- Write articles on relevant topics in this key priority area of the SAIA for the SAIA Bulletin and industry
- Provide information on relevant topics in this key priority area to the media and other relevant stakeholders via the Communications Agency as and when required
- Provide and drive the Nuclear Insurance facility operations including respective annual renewals, Local Outwards and Foreign Inwards, with regards to the South African Pool for the Insurance of Nuclear Risks (SANP)
- A very good understanding of facultative insurance placements and allocation
- Strong administrative skills are required
- Strong communication skills relating to annual nuclear capacity requests, renewals, regular reporting to Lloyds and SANP Management Committee
- Mentoring/Coaching the of Senior Forum Secretariate
Education, Skills and Experience
- 15 years' or more experience working with non-life insurers or within a non-life insurance company as a technical expert
- University degree or other relevant qualification
- Extensive knowledge of all classes of insurance or segments and facets in the non-life insurance industry
- In depth understanding of all technical insurance issues and/or emerging trends
- Deadline driven
- Ability to work and communicate with multiple levels of authority in the insurance and related industries
- Strong administration skills
- Leadership ability
- Self-starter
- Ability to work with no or little supervision
- Ability to manage and coordinate various projects simultaneously (multi-task) using Project Management and Time Management skills
- Ability to work within a team, understanding of EQ is essential
