Joy and pride filled the air at Diodi Primary School in Soweto on 22 October 2025 as learners, teachers, and guests gathered for the school’s first-ever MoneyTime Awards Ceremony. The event marked a significant milestone for learners who completed the MoneyTime Financial Literacy and Entrepreneurship Programme, an interactive initiative that equips young South Africans with the skills to make informed financial choices and dream of brighter futures.
Under the dedicated leadership of Principal Mr. Khoza, the ceremony became a celebration of courage, growth, and belief. His message to learners centred on the idea that education extends beyond academics — it’s also about resilience, hope, and community.
The event featured guest speakers from key partners, including Mr. Themba Palagangwe from the South African Insurance Association (SAIA) and Mr. Johan Olivier from MyLife, who inspired learners to see financial literacy as a pathway to opportunity and personal empowerment.
A highlight of the day was the group of nine confident Grade 7 learners who delivered short speeches reflecting on what they had learned through the programme. Their enthusiasm and insight demonstrated how understanding money can spark self-belief and ambition.
Adding to the inspiration, Ms. Mittah Kokong from New Ground Financial Literacy encouraged learners to rise above poverty through knowledge and entrepreneurial thinking, reinforcing the importance of financial education in shaping stronger futures.
The ceremony closed with recognition of Mr. Neo Kokong, whose vision and mentorship helped turn the programme into a movement for empowerment at Diodi Primary.
The event beautifully illustrated how the Adopt-A-School partnership model, supported by SAIA and powered by MoneyTime, can bring lasting, meaningful change to schools and communities across South Africa.
